Grade Requirements for Joining a Chapter
All of the fraternal organizations at WSU require a minimum grade point average for men/women to join as a new member. On average, chapters require students have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA out of high school and a 2.8 cumulative GPA from a transfer college/university.
Grade Requirements for Initiated Members
Initiated members must continue to meet an academic requirement determined by the chapter. If a member does not meet that requirement, he/she will be supported throughout the following semester with a scholarship plan, facilitated by the chapter's scholarship chair. However, continued academic struggle has consequences for members and a standards or judicial proceeding may take place.
Community Standards
In addition to individual standards within organizations, fraternities and sororities are held to an academic standard as an entire organization. Each semester, it is the expectation that the chapter meet a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80. Chapters that do not reach that standard are placed on an Academic Level and asked to provide additional materials documenting the use of an effective scholarship plan. More on the Academic Plan Levels can be found in the Relationship Agreement.
How CFSL computes chapter GPA's
All of our chapters are required to submit a roster of their members. Grade hours attempted and grade points earned data are collected for each person, summed, then the sum of grade points earned is divided by the sum of hours attempted for each chapter. Chapters are given a set period of time to notify CFSL if someone asks for a grade change. Once grades are changed, the chapter GPA can be revised.
