Moving Out of Residence Halls

Students who wish to move out of the Residence Halls and into a Greek Chapter House must follow proper Residence Life check out procedures in order to avoid being charged a fee for breaking their Housing Contract.  See Sorority Moving Procedures and Fraternity Moving Procedures for chapter-specific procedures related to moving in to the chapter house.

Summer Housing Contract Cancellation Process for Fraternity New Members

Fraternity members may cancel their residence hall contract until July 15 and move into chapter houses that have been approved to house freshmen based on the timeline their chapter has set for incoming new members. However, as noted below, a portion of the security deposit is forfeited after June 15.

Housing contract canceled by June 15: Complete refund

June 16 - July 1: Loss of half ($75) of the security deposit

July 2 - July 15:  Contracts may be cancelled but no refund will be made.

As of 11:59 pm July 15: No cancellations allowed, no refunds will be made

Men who join a fraternity after July 15 will reside in the residence halls during the fall semester.

Housing Contract Cancellation Process for Sorority New Members Immediately after Bid Day

Sorority members that are moving from the residence halls directly into chapter houses that have been approved to house freshmen may do so immediately following Sorority Recruitment (within a 36 hour window). This occurs the weekend before the academic year begins. The sororities utilize a "quota-system" for determining the number of contracts to break (each is allowed either 3 or 4).

Sororities do not participate in summer recruitment, thus, they cannot meet an early August deadline as Fraternities are able to do.

End of Fall semester Process

Students moving from residence halls to fraternities or sororities are never charged a cancellation penalty or termination fee and can avoid daily housing and dining charges in the Spring semester by checking out properly at the end of the fall semester.

Process for Move-Out at end of Fall Semester:

Fraternity/Sorority students must use the online contract termination process that all residence hall residents must follow, plus one more easy step.

  1. The New Member card or Continuous Open Recruiting form should be submitted to the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life before the member attempts to terminate his or her residence hall contract.
  2. The student must go to www.housing.wsu.edu and click on the Apply or Update Housing button, log on, and apply for termination.  Date of move should be after your last final exam.
  3. The student must print off a copy of the Authorization to Move form and have the chapter president sign it. This signed form must then be taken to CFSL prior to attempting to check out of the residence hall.
  4. Once the Authorization to Move form has been received, the online termination will be approved and the student will be allowed to check out of the residence hall without penalty.

Greek students living in the Residence Halls must terminate their housing contract and get approval from CFSL to move out well before the end of the semester so as to give the administrative staff time to give their approval, and properly checkout of their room by 10am on 12/15.  Anyone not completing the process by 12/15 at 10am will not be allowed out of their housing contract for Spring.
